Haynes Landing Hurricanes Swim Team Head Coach

The Haynes Landing Hurricanes are seeking a dedicated and experienced Swim Team Head Coach to lead our team for the 2019 swim season.

About Us

Haynes Landing subdivision is located in beautiful Johns Creek, Georgia north of Atlanta. Haynes Landing is proud to be the home of the Haynes Landing Hurricanes. An active swim team in our community, the mission of the team is to create a place where kids can develop their swimming skills and meet some great friends along the way. Our team has been competing for over two decades. The team currently is composed of about 100 swimmers from pre-K to high school ages drawn from several different neighborhoods near the Haynes Landing subdivision.

Job Description

The Swim Team Head Coach is responsible for overseeing the Haynes Landing Swim Team program and coaching staff in conjunction with the Haynes Landing Swim Team committee.  The Swim Team Head Coach provides feedback on execution and direction during swim practice and swim meets, responds to incidents, and interacts with parents and participants.  The Swim Team Head Coach provides high level of customer service and ensures a safe and positive program environment. This is a part-time job with work after school beginning in May and work in the mornings after school ends through the end of June.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs swim practice execution, provides technical work direction to assistant swim team coaches, provides real time feedback and notes to assistant swim team coaches
  • Plans and develops season goals for the team participants and assistant swim team coaches
  • Develops and approves weekly workouts for all participants and manages swimmer placement for efficient programing.
  • Serves as first level contact responding and documenting incidents which may occur.
  • Provides quality customer service to members, volunteers and participants.
  • Be present for all swim practices (afternoons beginning in May until end of school and mornings afterwards until end of season) and swim meets (1 practice meet, 5 competitive meets and the county finals meet).
  • Work with Haynes Landing Swim Team Committee to hire assistant coaches and manage overall swim team program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competitive swimming background or competitive swim coach experience
  • Possess current lifeguard and water safety instructor certifications (American Red Cross preferred), first aid/CPR certification, and American Swim Coach Association certification
  • Professional and effective communication skills
  • Ability to provide consistent, positive motivation in a technique-oriented swim program
  • Enthusiasm in working with children and young adults

Salary and Incentives:

  • Compensation commensurate with experience
  • Reimbursement for completion of necessary certification courses

The Nottaway Newts are looking for a Head Coach for the 2019 Summer Season.  We are a medium sized team (~120 swimmers) located just outside the perimeter off Chamblee-Tucker Road in northern DeKalb County.  Nottaway swimmers, parents, and coaches are known for great hospitality, sportsmanship, and developing an enjoyable and safe environment where swimmers of all abilities can participate.  The Head Coach position is paramount in promoting these values.

We are looking for a Head Coach experienced in coaching swimmers of all skill levels, but also in teaching swimming techniques to new swimmers. The Head Coach will have the support of Assistant and Junior Coaches, but will be responsible in developing and managing these individuals.  The Head Coach should have knowledge of USA Swimming Safe Sport guidelines and promote a team environment that ensures the health and safety of all swimmers.  The Nottaway Team has a strong parent leadership team full of helpful experienced summer and year-round swimming families who are available to support the Head Coach in any manner needed.

A successful Head Coach will have the following attributes:

  • Current lifeguard certification
  • Role Model – the Head Coach is a role model to all swimmers and coaches. They behave in a manner that is consistent with and promotes the team values.
  • Excellent communication skills in both listening and speaking
  • Good computer skills – experience with both Team Manager and Meet Manager and web-based swim team management software
  • Responsible – takes care of team equipment, is prompt at team activities, and dependable for all assigned tasks

Job Summary (Essential Functions) 

Responsible for coaching the Village Mill Swim Team. We are looking for a high-energy, motivated individual to safely lead our young swimmers of all ability levels in our competitive, but fun neighborhood swim league. Under the direction of the Swim Team Coordinators, the Head Swim Coach manages the swim team, and assistant coaches. He or She provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for the swim team participants and coaching staff. Attends all swim meets, practices, meetings, and events throughout the season. Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe environment for members and participants.

Tasks/Skills 

  • Responsible for scheduling and training of assistant coaches

  • Responsible for coordinating various aspects of swim meets including, but not limited to, individual race participants, pre/post computer work, recording and posting of start times, and post-race ribbon distribution.
  • Attends and participates in swim team social events and swim coaches’ meetings.
  • Responsible for monitoring and adhering to the swim team budget. 
  • Responsible for timely communication with swim team parents per the Communication Strategy plan.
  • Responsible for development of team spirit, using various motivational techniques.
